With each year comes the pronouncement that “Java is dead” and that some new technology will replace it. This is partially driven because the range of languages and frameworks that are available for building server applications has exploded over the last few years. The most recent of those being the Swift programming language from Apple, which IBM has been backing for server side development along with providing the Kitura application framework. But is Swift the “Java killer” that means I should stop developing Java server applications?
This session will provide you an introduction to where and when you might use Kitura, and take you through how the experience of building your first Swift based Kitura application compares to building the same application with Java EE.
